1 on 1 Defensive Coverage
(submitted on October 19, 2001)

Summary:
Improve your man to man coverage with this simple drill.

Description:
You have one handler, and two even lines. In this case white is offence and blue is defence. When the handler says 'GO' the offensive player runs and makes a cut and the player from the defensive line attempts to stop the offensive player from getting the disc. The offensive player can make as many cuts as they want, but it is easier for the person handling if they only make one hard cut. Once the throw is either 'D' blocked or completed, the player from the offence line joins the end of the defence line, and vice versa. Make sure the players run hard and bid for those disc's, this a great drill to work on one on one situations.

Make a new play based on this one!

This drill works best for me if my players pair up by ability level. It has been run successfully otherwise and can show a beginning player how important the marking is, but if they are simply slower than the man they are marking, they will rarely succeed in this drill. It can be demoralizing and counterproductive without adjusting the pairings.

My teacher has helped make ultimate frisbee a game that is played almost everyday at my school. He taught us how to play and some skills and some drills and i've been playing everyday since september. This drill helped me and all my friends because now our games are pretty serious, now that we've gained some experience. Anyway i would like to thank the person who did this drill. It helped me gain more points towards beating my teacher :)
